The Millennium Correction Society

The members of the Millennium Correction Society (MCS) are dedicated to correcting the idea the twenty-first century starts in the year 2000. No, our members know better. It's 2001!

Oh well, that was an idea that went nowhere. I'd have better luck explaining quantum physics to my dog.

When fear's coming and you're standing in the middle of the road trying to flag it down, all you are is roadkill.

So, if the boneheads can't understand the first year is one not zero, let's try something they can handle. Fear!

The Year 2000 (Y2K) Problem is better than any horror movie or ghost story for scaring the "you know what" out of people. If you've been following the news stories, you already know at midnight, Friday, December 31, 1999, all the electrons in the universe will spin out of their orbits and the Earth with crash into the sun.

If you're not already scared enough, you think you can handle the truth, then keep reading otherwise take the nearest exit.

Y2K: The True Story

Follow the money! How many times have you heard that one? It goes all the way back to Watergate and Deep Throat. "If you want to understand this story, you have to follow the money!"

Senators and Representatives, bought and sold on the international market, tell us, "Duck and cover! Y2K is coming! Y2K is coming!" Is this a public service announcement? Are they modern day Paul Revers or just more paid commerial programming?

We've all heard the hype. Planes will fall from the sky. The national power grid will fail. The economy will become stupid. The Year 2000 is the end of civilization. Maybe we are doomed but it if are it will because of people, fear and panic.

During the final years, there will be a few problems. Some credit cards will bounce, some people and computers will be confused the first time they see a date with '00 but overall no serious damage or panic will occur.

The last few months of '99 are a different story. The streets will run with blood.

Fearing the breakdown of basic services, many people will migrate to rural areas. This sudden influx of people will overwhelm the small towns leaving them helpless in the face of the simplest emergency. City folks, that think a well is something you throw coins into and make a wish, will be faced with the problem of operating one without the benefit of electricity, telephone, Internet access or a neighbor nearer than 10 miles away.

Back in the cities, fearing the worst, people will stock up on food, water, basic supplies and cash. The sudden demand will empty store shelves and start bank runs. Faced with no water and no money they will begin to just take what they think they need.

The riots will begin in the inner cities. -- Remember those Rodney King people? They're still out there. -- While the police try to deal with the urban violence, the opportunists will move on to the suburbs. Within weeks, anyone that isn't walking around with a gun won't be walking around.

March 1999, Red China files 500,000 paternity suits against Bill Clinton in the World Court.

December 1999, the situation is tense. Armed troops are patrolling the streets. The transportation system, already loaded to capacity from the holiday traffic, on the verge of collapse from the masses fleeing the cities, comes to a complete halt when the pilots, fearing the Y2K problem, refuse to fly.

December 27, 1999, FBI agents weld manhole covers in Times Square closed. Y2K czar explains we have nothing to fear before retreating to his Y2K bunker. Dick Clark removes bandages after millennium face lift.

December 28, 1999, Seattle cancels New Years celebrations. Disgruntled revealers joined WTO protesters and reduced the city to millennium ashes.

December 31, 1999, 10:00 AM GMT, Karibati, newly named Millennium Island sinks.

December 31, 1999, 10:15 AM GMT, Chatham Island, now number two, goes unreported.

December 31, 1999, 11:00 AM GMT, New Zealand, power fails. Sheep take advanage of the chaos to rape ranchers.

More details to add:

first people stopped my PC's.
Y2K-phobia - Unnatural fear the year 2000.
the same guys that ain't buy computers will also decide to spend the Christmas holidays back on grandma's farm.
more people on the highways. more people in rural areas that can't support them.
Y2K jackals hope to save the day by getting lots of money, slapping "Year 2000 complaint" stickers on everything and telling the masses it's OK now. It won't work. You can start fear. You can use it. You can even sell it but can't stop it. When fear's coming and you're standing in the middle of the road trying to flag it down, all you are is roadkill.
